Class Description

Join us at the After-School Clay Program at Clawson Clay Guild for an exciting and creative journey into the world of clay! Our programming is designed to provide kids and teens with hands-on experiences in hand-building activities, pottery wheel techniques, and the art of glazing pottery. Through engaging projects that celebrate diverse cultures, the natural world, animals and artifacts, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for ceramics while developing their artistic skills and creativity.

Program Highlights

  1. Hand-Building Activities: We will explore various hand-building techniques, such as pinch pots, coil pots, and slab construction. They will have the opportunity to bring their imaginative ideas to life through the tactile process of clay molding.

  2. Pottery Wheel Experience: Kids will learn the mesmerizing art of pottery wheel throwing under the guidance of skilled instructors. They'll witness their clay take shape on the wheel, transforming into beautiful vessels and forms.

  3. Pottery Glazing: Understanding the art of glazing is essential in creating unique and vibrant ceramic pieces. Participants will learn different glazing techniques to add color, texture, and personality to their creations.

  4. Cultural Exploration: Our projects are thoughtfully designed to connect clay art with various cultures from around the world. Through these projects, children will learn about diverse traditions and artistic expressions while appreciating the universality of clay as a medium of artistic communication.

  5. Individualized Instruction: With a low student-to-instructor ratio, each person receives personalized attention and guidance. We celebrate the uniqueness of every young artist and encourage them to explore their own creative path.

  6. Fun and Inclusive Environment: The Clawson Clay Guild studio is a safe and welcoming space where kids can freely express themselves, make new friends, and build lasting memories.
